"Mitra has worked in the multicultural sector since coming to Australia from Iran in 1994. She holds a Masters in Applied Linguistics, a Masters in Social Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Development and Social Policy. Previously Mitra worked as the Coordinator for the Centre for Multicultural and Community Development at the University of the Sunshine Coast, overseeing community development projects focusing on regional settlement, families and parenting across cultures, youth engagement, women’s empowerment and anti-racism training. At MDA, Mitra oversees continuing settlement services, including youth settlement, case work and intensive support services. She manages MDA’s regional development, economic participation and settlement competency training areas. Mitra has a strong commitment to women’s and children’s rights and has recently been awarded a Churchill Fellowship aimed at improving the economic participation of ‘refugee women at risk’."
